M-79, 40mm Grenade Carrier Vest 1968
The vest was introduced in 1968. The capacity was 24 grenades. The vest has plastic buttons. There are no labels on the vest like the later models, only stamps.
T61-5 Armor
The T61-5 (T for Test) was to be the Army's replacement for the M1952A. The T61-5 was supposed to be more flexible and ergonomic, which it succeeded in being. This was achieved through the use of over 100 titanium plates. It officially replaced the M1952A vest (whose production ceased around 1955-1956) as the standard Army vest. This, however, occurred only on paper.
Apparently, production was expensive and the vest was not used extensively.
Judging from contemporary photographs, it was present in some US Navy units during the Vietnam War.
